When violinists around the world mysteriously vanish, 16-year-old Emma Braun takes notice.  But when her beloved violin teacher disappears… Emma takes charge. With Sherlock Holmes fanatic, not to mention gorgeous Corey Fletcher, Emma discovers a parallel world ruled by an ex-violinist turned evil sorceress who wants to rule the music world on her own terms.

But why are only men violinists captured and not women? What is the connection between Emma's family, the sorceress, and the infamous Niccolò Paganini?

Emma must unravel the mystery in order to save her teacher from the fatal destiny that awaits him.  And undo the curse that torments her family—before evil wins and she becomes the next luthier's apprentice…

My Review: The Luthier's Apprentice for me was a fun quirky read with so many different elements to the story. Emma (the main character) is a wonderful girl who had a need for knowing the answers to everything. She is a Sherlock Holmes addict and takes sleuthing very seriously. Besides her sleuthing abilities Emma is a violinist in study. That is until her instructor goes missing. Then everything is sent spinning. Emma's world begins to fill with questions and not enough answers. As Emma sets out to find these answers she discovers sometime things are not always as they seem and that the world holds many secrets. I found this book to be quite enjoyable and a quick read. I was enveloped into the story wanting to know the answers to my questions as badly as Emma wanted the answers as well. I did find that this story was very full of detail leaving just enough to the readers imagination though to keep one entertained. The Luthier's Apprentice is a complete gem of a story and I am hoping there will be more like it written by Mayra Calvani to come!
