Read Me Dead Review

Title: Read Me Dead
Author: Emerald Barnes
Genre: YA
Pages:363

The Blurb: Alexia Wheaton’s problems go beyond picking a dress and a date for homecoming.

For seven years, Alex has lived with a painful memory - her parents' horrific murder. As the sole witness, she has kept quiet to protect herself, but when the local newspaper reveals her secret, Alex is plagued with fear that her parents' murderer will soon find her - and silence her forever.

Alex is catapulted into a race against time to save her own life and bring her parents' murderer to justice.

My Review: As I sat on the edge of my seat waiting for what awaited around every corner with the turn of every page the thrill of suspense clung to every word in Read Me Dead. I found myself trying to figure out the "who done it" if you will with every new chapter. I could not put this book down it became an obsession of needing to know how the entire story played out and of course if any of my guesses of who the murderer was were even close to correct. Emerald Barnes did an amazing job of keeping me on the edge of my seat and she is an author that I will soon being reading more from as I so am enjoying her writing. I can honestly say she has made a fan out of me. I hope you will take a chance and let the suspense of Read Me Dead make a fan out of you as well.

Proximity Review

Title: Proximity
Author: M. A. George
Genre: Sci-fi/ Romance
Pages: 158

The Blurb: Dr. Palta Capal would be a typical American career woman…if only she were human.

She has found her calling in this world as a physician. It’s an ideal outlet for her compassionate spirit...and unearthly healing powers.

Palta may spend her nights rereading Jane Austen novels, but she deliberately avoids pursuing her own love story. Human men—attractive as they may be—inevitably grow old and wither, leaving her to grieve in solitude. Frankly, no one has seemed worth the torment.

Enter Eric Moran, the intensely attractive and enigmatic new coworker on the scene. With his quiet confidence and warm smile, he manages to draw Palta’s attention. Little does she know that he, too, holds a secret…one that will propel them both into an escalating collision of two worlds.

My Review: I began reading this book skeptically afraid that I would not like the story at all. I was completely surprised as I threw myself into the depths of Proximity. I lost all track of time while reading it.  As my mind wrapped around the sci-fi aspects I fell in love with the characters. I couldn't believe how connected I became with this book. I laughed, cried, yelled and felt the fear and anxiety of Proximity. It reminded me of the importance of family as well as love and friendship. This book left my mind to picture the landscape to a world that was both beautiful and awe inspiring.

Schrodinger's Cat Review

Title: Schrodinger's Cat
Author: Eileen Schuh
Genre: Sci-fi / thriller
Pages: 74

The Blurb: Chordelia, straddling two of the realities proposed in Everett’s Many Worlds Theory of Quantum Physics, has no idea how distorted the line is between choice and fate.

In one of her worlds, Chorie’s young daughter is dying—a drama that quickly contaminates her other, much rosier, reality. Before long, the emotional burden of dealing with two separate lives spawns heated legal battles, endangers her role as mother and wife, and causes people in both universes to judge her insane. As her lives begin to crumble, so does Chorie’s heart and mind.

When Dr. Penny, a man with disturbing, murky, hypnotic eyes offers to rid her of the life that’s causing so much pain, she must decide if she is willing to sacrifice the chance to be with her dying child for the chance to save her marriage and experience happiness.

She thinks she’s planned it well—she’s researched her choices, prepared herself for the consequences, put everything in place. She makes her decision. However....

Life, as it has the propensity to do, strikes back with the dark and unexpected.

My Review: For me this book was like watching those childhood flip books in slow motion. I was almost as confused with reality as the main character of the book Chorie. I had trouble following which reality she was in at time and found myself frustrated in the end. Schrodinger's Cat is not a very long story, with a lot of twists and turns of reality and quantum physics. I have to be honest and say it was not my favorite of books ever read. I don't think this is a book I would choose to read again.

Fatal Error Review

Title: Fatal Error
Author: Eileen Schuh
Genre: YA
Pages: 295

The Blurb: Four lives intertwined by fate may lead to one fatal error…

When the police chopper rescues her from The Traz biker compound, fourteen-year-old Katrina thinks she’s escaping her brutal past. But she soon discovers that the cops know her darkest secrets, and she slides into an emotional hell of horror and guilt.

Shrug, the undercover officer who recruited her to the gang, struggles to undo the harm he has inflicted, but his attempts to protect Katrina spiral out of control. His boss, Sergeant Kindle, knows nothing can be forgotten and much must be forgiven before Katrina or Shrug will be free from the aftermath of the police sting.

Complicating matters, Katrina's dream relationship with another undercover officer, Chad, hits a major firewall when she discovers he's engaged. Just one fatal error could send Katrina, and everyone else involved, down a path of destruction that could leave no survivors.

My Review: Once again we meet up with Katrina she is still up to her old tricks only this time people realize that she is not as innocent as she would like for them to believe and finds it's not as easy to hide behind her youthful "innocence". Katrina goes on some pretty self indulged tirades and blames her whole tragic life on everyone never accepting responsibility for her actions. Oh then bam! I hit a twist in the story that leaves me wondering what just hit me!
Fatal Error is a story that left me with a much better feeling of Katrina. I enjoyed this second book of the series more than the first. I truly enjoyed getting the wind knocked out of my sails so to speak. I feel that the series is totally worth reading and that if you have ever been a mother of a teenager try to read this without thinking about your own experiences just enjoy the book.

The Traz Review

Title: The Traz
Author: Eileen Schuh
Genre: YA
Pages: 202

The Blurb:One girl, one undercover cop, one dangerous gang…

Thirteen-year-old Katrina is desperate for an adventure, something to numb her pain and loneliness. When Shrug, a giant biker from The Traz gang, asks if she wants a ride, she makes a reckless, life-changing decision.

Vulnerable and grieving, Katrina becomes a target for the gang's abuse—and there's no way to escape. Until she meets Chad, an undercover cop with rich brown eyes, a gentle chuckle and a plan to rescue her.

Only one problem. Someone is keeping dangerous secrets from them both.

My Review: The Traz is  book that left me feeling like I was dealing with a spoiled rotten little girl who felt like the world owed her something. She proceeded to do things in her own way regardless of the consequences. Then she meets the undercover cop and becomes in love with him. He sees her as a little sister and makes her some promises. She then falls into some really bad crap with  the gang and finds herself not wanting to deal with what has happened.
I did truly enjoy the story it had a lot of twists and turns that I was not expecting. I will be honest and say that Katrina's character ruffled my feathers a little and I wanted to scream at her several times. Even with that said though I still liked reading The Traz and think there are several others out there who will as well.

The Scarlet Omen Review

Title: The Scarlet Omen
Author:Cinthia KoeKsal
Genre: Fantasy/Myth & Legend
Pages: 234

Blurb:What do a clan of vampires, a hidden gateway and a three hundred year old prophecy have to do with a rebellious teenager? Everything.

Being a good daughter is not easy. Being a bad one is downright exhausting. Anjeli, a girl plagued by visions of blood lust and magic, tries to live a carefree, teenage life but her over-protective Indian mother will not have any of it.

The animosity between them does not subside and as a series of events changes the course of their lives, Anjeli tries to assuage her guilty conscience with good memories. Instead, Anjeli stumbles upon a prophecy that has come to claim her as its main performer.

My Review:
"Despite his large build and scales so thick they deflected the bright rays of the evening suns, Raja Naga, the ruby red dragon, soared effortlessly through the dark clouds, scanning the horizon."

This is the first sentence in The Scarlet Omen and from reading that alone I was hooked! I love dragons! This book has every element of fantasy and surprise you could ever ask for or want. Each character just comes to life while reading this book.
As this story began to unfold for me the more intrigued I became. It was as if each scene was being painted right in front of me being brought to life through the sheer magic of the land in which it was being told in. I could see what Anjeli could see it was as if I could feel what she felt. I was right beside her it was like a magnificent daydream! The brilliance and the beauty of all the characters was amazing, the dragons obviously being my favorite but each one of the others from Ajeli to the Blood Witch had an element of mystical beauty to them. Chapter after chapter I was pulled in deeper and deeper to a realm not so unlike our own yet it held such wonders as one has never seen before. I could not put this book down nor did I want to.  I could have stayed forever. The Scarlet Omen started with a dragon's mystical beauty and fantasy untold and continued to carry that throughout the entire story. It told of a beautiful realm and of its woes and triumphs. As it came to a close it left me with a sense of utter fulfillment!
